This posting is inspired by an article on Entrepreneur.com, you can read it here: 5 Skills You Must Develop to Succeed in Business.
Recently I read an article by Steve Tobak, author of Real Leaders Don’t Follow. In his book he explains to us how entrepreneurs can start, build, and run successful companies in highly competitive global markets. In the article, Five Skills You Must Develop To Succeed In Business, he briefly describes the five critical skills he believes you need to make your business a success. As Tobak explains,
“The business world is changing every day. In order to succeed you must adapt to its changing landscape. More than just reacting to it though, we want to shape it and be out in front, leading the pack. Here are five competencies you’ll need to develop if you want to adapt, thrive, and distinguish yourself in this new world.”
His list of the five must have competencies for entrepreneurs are:
- 1. Critical Thinking
- 2. Focus and Discipline
- 3. Being Human
- 4. Getting Things Done
- 5. Competitive Spirit
After reading the article I have to agree with Tobak. As an entrepreneur you really need to set yourself apart from everyone else. But if you possess these five traits you are well on way. You may be wondering if these are all it takes to be successful. Of course not, but these five traits will get you started on your road to success. I encourage you to read the article. When you’re done with that read his book. It will only help you fine tune your already impressive skill set and improve your chances of being a success.
